A short post about parrotfish
when we were in Mexico we saw these fish called parrot fish. I followed them around and did some research online to learn more about them here is what I've learned:
Parrotfish come in many different colours but they all have a pretty distinct shape and a mouth with lips and teeth. Parrotfish are normally found swimming around tropical reefs using their "beak" they scrape up dead coral to eat it.
Don't put your fingers near them though, my dad got bit on the thumb once! Their beak is also used to turn little rocks into the sand when they eat food they will also eat other little things that come with it.
How do the parrotfish sleep?
Depending on the parrotfish they either make a cocoon out of their mucus or the hide in little caves. Some people believe that the mucus helps to mask their scent to protect them from predators or to prevent parasites.
